Alien At The Party

ALIEN AT THE PARTY
I used to stumble out the rabbit hole,
But I’d fall right in the mud
Tryin’ to make it back to Wonderland
But it’s not that easy, bud
Lost in a wilderness of suits and ties
Still in my armor as the old White Knight
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
They say it’s easy if you just fit in,
But you know that I don’t know
‘Cause I think they can sense my secret
I’m just some raccoons in an old trench coat
I couldn’t make it through the nightclub door
I didn’t want to be there anymore
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I’m just a square peg in a round hole,
On the outside looking in
I’m the alien at the party,
Trying to hide my scales and fins
With my tentacles tucked under,
I think I might look alright
But I know I’m not fooling anyone tonight
When I first met you, I was mesmerized
Yeah, I guess you must have noticed that
You told me that you had a secret side
And then you took off your old top hat
And as your tentacles came tumbling down
I knew that neither of us had to be alone
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Well, we’ve been happy now for quite some time
And I guess it only goes to show
You can’t give up out on the lonely road
Because tomorrow never knows
This is the beginning of a very long trip
We might make contact with the Mothership
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
We’re just the square pegs in the round holes
On the outside looking in
We’re the aliens at the party,
Showing off our scales and fins
With our tentacles all over,
Yeah we know we look all right
And we don’t give a damn what anyone thinks tonight
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

CHUPACABRA
If I was your Chupracabra, I would suck upon your goat
And leave it all exsanguinated somewhere real remote
The writeups in the tabloids they will never be believed
My powers are far beyond what you can easily concieve
If I was your Evil Alien I’d abduct you from your bed
Transport you from your room up to my space boudoir instead
But I wouldn’t erase your memory like the other aliens do
I want you to remember me, like I remember you
Anything I can be, anything I can do
Anything I can be for you
And if I was your Yeti, I would frolic on your heights
And in your mountain ranges I would chortle with delight
I’d yodel in your forests & go wading in your streams
And dream of you at night, assuming Yetis ever dream
Anything I can be, anything I can do
Anything I can be for you

Peace In Your Time

PEACE IN YOUR TIME
Greetings to you from beyond the grave
I’m so glad that the Time Capsule was saved
If you’re reading this, I’m probably well away
Maybe walking down your streets with a different face
I put the book in the bottle so that you might see
The kind of people that we used to be
But when it comes down to it, man, it’s just me
Hoping you’re out somewhere breathing free
Cause the future where you live is beyond my sight
And there’s just one thing I have to say tonight...
I just hope for blue skies above you
And I hope for someone to love you
And I hope for Peace Coming In Your Time
I just hope for good stars to guide you
And I that hope grows inside you
And I hope for Peace Coming In Your Time
It might not come in mine,
But don’t give up that dream
It’s too pure and fine
For it not to be seen
It’s getting late, my candle’s burned down low
And it won’t be long before I have to go
Just one voice reaching out through the years
And I hope that somehow you can get past these fears
Cause the future where you live is beyond my sight
And there’s just one thing I have to say tonight...

Demons Lied

DEMONS LIED
Never thought that I’d be winding up this way
Never thought I’d be the one with nothing left to say
High in the sky a kite is flying, since someone let it go
It might make its way to heaven, but it’s hard to really know
Anything you want, you know you can have
The demons told me and the demons laughed
Light and dark and fire and ice
You can get it all if you pay the price
I heard what they said, but I didn’t care
When I looked through the door and saw you standing there
You can have it all if you pay the price
The demons told me, but the demons lied
Forget now why I came out here, oh so far
And I look up at the unforgiving stars
Up there that kite is tumbling in the crazy midnight wind
Yeah, you can lose your heart, but you can also lose your mind
Anything you want, you know you can have
The demons told me and the demons laughed
Light and dark and fire and ice
You can get it all if you pay the price
I heard what they said, but I didn’t care
When I looked through the door and saw you standing there
You can get it all if you pay the price
The demons told me, but the demons lied
Somewhere in some distant galaxy, out there beyond the sky
Perhaps another you and me, it might have turned out fine
An alternate reality where everything’s OK
I’ve thought about so many things, I can’t believe in anything
Up there that kite is tumbling in the crazy midnight wind
Yeah, you can lose your heart, but you can also lose your mind
Anything you want, you know you can have
The demons told me and the demons laughed
Light and dark and fire and ice
You can get it all if you pay the price
I heard what they said, but I didn’t care
When I looked through the door and saw you standing there
You can get it all if you pay the price
The demons told me, but the demons lied
Yeah, the demons lied

Tempest Song

TEMPEST SONG
Caliban and Ariel they’re playin’ dice in the back hall
While Prospero sniffs magic dust in the bathroom stall
And the extras in the wings, they couldn’t care less at all
They’re just waiting for their moment on the stage
But me I’m all alone out here, the floodlights burn my eyes
The part that I’ve been playin’ has cut me down to size
Wish I was in the crowd scene with all those other guys
I’ve lost my lines and everything’s so strange
The ink keeps disappearing from the page
I thought I knew the script so well when I was safe at home
You played the part of a star and I played the part of a stone
Then the ship began to sink and the sea began to groan
With the tempest’s winds whistling’ all around
The magician in the plot had an agenda for the crew
Had an angel in his bond and a demon on the loose
He caused so much confusion he reminded me of you
Before the things between us had to change
The ink keeps disappearing from the page
Now my charms are all o’erthrown
And what strength I have’s mine own
Which is most faint: now, ‘tis true
I must be here confined by you
As from your crimes would pardon’d be
Let your indulgence set me free
I used to be an actor till I got lost in the play
I thought I was a sailor that the winds had blown astray
Then I wound up on the island and I couldn’t get away
Or not until the final curtain call
Sometimes I think our story is hidden in the lines
Like you and I were dreams inside the Writer’s mind
We shared a scene together, but just for that short time
And it’s our last performance, I’m afraid
The ink keeps disappearing from the page

HOLDING ON FOR THE SPRINGTIME
I feel that I am floating way up high
Between the stony stars up in the icy sky
Or else I’m in some dark caves down below
I just don’t know, I just don’t know
I hear the wind blow snow across the night
This winter’s got me hunkered down real tight
I’m down so far that I’m afraid
I can’t be saved, I can’t be saved
The frogs are sleeping deep below the ice
I know someday I’ve got to get it right
Till then I’m frozen like the rest of creation
Waiting for the first thaw’s incantation
Here in my suspended animation
Holding on, holding on for the springtime
I remember laughing with the warm sun on my skin
I remember walking in the light
I tell myself that I could feel like that again
I know I can’t give up this fight
This world is waiting for the new world to begin
I look out through a window etched with frost
And wonder how I ever got this lost
I wish this cold could melt itself away
It might someday, it might someday
The frogs are sleeping deep below the ice
I know someday I’ve got to get it right
Till then I’m frozen like the rest of creation
Waiting for the first thaw’s incantation
Here in my suspended animation
Holding on, holding on for the springtime

That's The Girl For Me
05:17
|
|||
THAT’S THE GIRL FOR ME
Some girls, they’re like fire
Some girls, they’re like ice
My girl’s like a warm spring day
Don’t you know that’s much more nice
Some girls, they’re like coffee
Some girls, they’re like tea
My girl, she’s like a fine Irish whiskey
Yeah, that’s the girl for me
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
Call on everybody in the whole wide world, they will truly see
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, the girl, yeah the girl for me
Some girls want the Cadillac cars
So that they can be driven around
Some want the Belgian chocolates,
So that they can put on a few pounds
Some girls want the cocaine,
So that they can stay up all night
My girl just wants lovin’ from me
And I say that’s all right
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
Call on everybody in the whole wide world, they will truly see
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, the girl, yeah the girl for me
Some girls are like the voodoo
They be messin’ round with your head
Some girls are like black magic
And make you wish that you were dead
Some girls are like a fundamentalist preacher,
Fillin’ you up with jive
My girl, she’s like a good luck charm
She makes me glad that I’m alive
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl, that’s the girl for me
Call on everybody in the whole wide world, they will truly see
That’s the girl, that’s the girl, the girl, yeah the girl for me

It's Not All Right
04:31
|
|||
IT’S NOT ALL RIGHT
If you look into my eyes, you’ll see that there’s no doubt
You’re the major factor in my ever-famous spinning out
My friends all say they’re worried about me
But you’re not worried, far as I can see
At least you sure were honest, I have to give you this
You said you’d screw me up, and it started with that poison kiss
I thought I knew the path that we were on
I never thought that it could go this wrong
And it’s not all right – what you’ve been doing to me
No, it’s not all right – and don’t you think that I can’t see
I just can’t take it any more
My fingers snap in the slamming door
You’ve got me crawling on the floor this time
And it’s not all right
Swimming underwater, but I had to catch my breath
I had no idea I was out so far beyond my depth
Drowning in the riptide of your love
I’m swept out to sea, and now you’re done
And it’s not all right – what you’ve been doing to me
No, it’s not all right – and don’t you think that I can’t see
I just can’t take it any more
My fingers snap in the slamming door
You’ve got me crawling on the floor this time
And it’s not all right

Longest Night

|

LONGEST NIGHT
Don’t you know that I’m always dreamin’, As I’m watching our change of seasons
And I number the thousand reasons I can’t get back home
Seems to me that you’re always leavin’, I love you but you won’t believe it
If you did it could be so easy for us to get home
Ride away in your gypsy vardo
You need time off just like Greta Garbo
I think it’s wrong but then what do I know
On this porch alone
Autumn’s wind sends the gold leaves flyin’
I look out on the light that’s dyin
Maybe this time we’ll both be cryin’
This time when you go
Dead Summer’s soul is broken now, I’d like to get it back somehow
And walk with you in sunlight once again… but out here on these icy heights
We’re headed for the longest night… I still feel hope’s here to be found
You know these cycles spin around, please think of me with kindness until Then
I held you in the heart of Summer
In the fields you were such a stunner
Now you’re gone and it’s such a bummer
I’m here on my own
Winter here and my heart is frozen
Like the spring that was once free-flowin’
Will it thaw? There’s no way of knowing
How to get back home

SHE BROKE THE FIRST RULE OF ACID
She broke the first rule of acid, and she looked in the mirror
She saw a figure in the distance, but it started coming nearer
Down these long and ancient halls, there’s oh, so many doors
And there might be a reason that some of them stay closed
When she was out in the sunshine, it was fine for a minute
Like a bright oil painting, and you know she was in it
It only took a puff of smoke, and then the weather changed
Here inside this quiet house, everything’s so strange
She broke the first rule of acid, and she looked in the mirror
Now she’s still in the room, but no one can see or hear her
There’s a picture of a girl here now, in a gilded frame
And everybody knows this house is haunted once again

I'm Gonna Stand

I’M GONNA STAND (THE FENCE POST SONG)
I was walking out in the country, a couple miles from my home
When I saw a post on the side of the road, sitting out there all alone
A string of rusty barbed wire told the story of its job
It was part of some farmer’s fencing, but now the fence is gone
I looked at it for a while, in the golden sunset light
It was rough and old and bent and gnarled, but still standing upright
And I’m not sure just what happened,
But it seemed that that old fencepost was an awful lot like me
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
Even if it seems that it don’t make sense anymore
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
Yeah, and if I have to I’ll stand out here alone
There’ll be a day when I fall down
But today is not that day
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
Back in the day, it stood with its fellows in that field up on the hill
The fence held back the varmints, and it would be up there still
But time and fate have changed things, I’m not sure exactly why
One lonely post like an ancient ghost standing up against the sky
And me, I’m walkin’ home, with some questions in my mind
Used to think I knew why I was here, but now I can’t decide
And I might be old and gnarled and bent, yeah, in fact I know that’s true
But I just like that old fencepost, I’ll do what I’ve got to do
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
Even if it seems that it don’t make sense anymore
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
Yeah, and if I have to I’ll stand out here alone
There’ll be a day when I fall down
But today is not that day
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can
I’m gonna stand, as tall as I can

Bad Good Day
03:12
|
|||
BAD GOOD DAY
I wake up to the sunshine and I know today is all mine
But I know for sure that I’d better just watch out
‘Cause the radio and TV could undermine the way I’m feeling
With some stuff I can’t do anything about
Inner demons out of sight whisper to me in the night
In the further deeper regions of my soul
Telling me I’m just a lie, and I was born here just to die,
And besides, I’m really kind of an asshole
Well, I’m hoping for the best, but every day’s a test, and I sure don’t want for things to go astray
I’m just trying, I’m just trying
I’m just trying not to have a bad good day
All crazy kind of dread sitting hidden in my head
Don’t you know I feel it’s trying to steal my smile
I don’t want to miss the morning
When I could be up and soaring
Can’t I just be out there happy for a while
I’m working on it, friends, and before my story ends
Let me tell you that I’m gonna be OK
I’m just trying, I’m just trying
I’m just trying not to have a bad good day

Todd was here before. Perhaps you recognize him from back then. He looked different then, though. If you think he owes you any money, he was probably some other guy. Those other guys are gone now. We think they may be in Guam, or possibly Kansas.
