A song I wrote from an original title by my dear friend Dave Kaftan, Blues guitarist extraordinaire and wonderful human in general. We played in many bands and had many adventures together...he passed away some years ago and we all miss him terribly. The song I wrote is probably very different from the one he would have written, but he just didn't have time and so I did what I could, thinking of the many philosophical discussions we had over the years.

DEEP END OF THE POOL

We talked all night long, over many a beer
For so many nights, over so many years
One of the favorite things we could do
We were swimming in the deep end of the pool

Where do we come from, and where do we go?
We both would agree that it’s so hard to know
The things that we hoped for weren’t easy to prove
We were swimming in the deep end of the pool

Our time flows by like a fast-running stream
Our thoughts are like shadows that fade in the dawn
Are we here for certain, or is this a dream?
Is there somewhere we go when we’re gone?
